From Pune to Portugal: My First Aeropress Championship Journey
2024 turned out to be an unforgettable year for me. It was the first time I ever competed in an Aeropress championship, and what a journey it has been! I started at the Pune Aeropress Championship, where I secured 2nd place, and soon found myself standing on the national stage, taking home 2nd place once again at the National Aeropress Championship. But the most thrilling part was getting the chance to represent India at the World Aeropress Championship in Lisbon, Portugal—a dream come true for a passionate home brewer like me.
The First Step: Pune Aeropress Championship 2024
My coffee journey had always been about experimentation, finding the perfect balance of grind, water composition, and extraction. However, competing was never something I considered—until 2024. When I signed up for the Pune Aeropress Championship, I had no idea what to expect. Yet, from the moment the competition began, I knew this was where I was meant to be.
With a mix of excitement and nerves, I crafted my brew using techniques I’d refined over years of home brewing, blending my love for coffee with the precision of my Chestnut C2 grinder and custom water recipes. It all came together in that perfect cup, which earned me a 2nd place finish on my very first attempt. That result not only filled me with pride but also opened the door to the National Aeropress Championship.
National Aeropress Championship: A Bigger Stage
The Nationals were unlike anything I had ever experienced. Facing off against top brewers from across the country, I knew I had to push my boundaries. The competition was intense, but it was also an inspiring showcase of creativity and passion. I explored new flavor profiles, experimented with extraction techniques, and gave everything I had to my brew.
Standing on the podium as the 2nd place finisher was an incredible moment—one that I’ll never forget. More than just a medal, this achievement earned me the incredible opportunity to represent India at the World Aeropress Championship in Lisbon, Portugal.
Representing India on the Global Stage: Lisbon, Portugal
Heading to Lisbon was surreal. Representing India at the World Aeropress Championship was beyond anything I had imagined when I started this journey. Lisbon, with its rich coffee history and vibrant culture, felt like the perfect place to bring together the world’s best brewers.
The competition in Lisbon was fierce. Surrounded by top brewers from all corners of the globe, each round was a lesson in precision, creativity, and the art of brewing. I learned so much, not just from the competition itself but also from the incredible people I met—each with their own unique approach to coffee.
Though I didn’t take the top spot, the experience of competing at the world level was deeply rewarding. The insights, connections, and memories I took home from Lisbon will continue to fuel my coffee journey for years to come.
Looking Forward
As I reflect on my first year of competing, from Pune to Portugal, I’m filled with gratitude. The path ahead is filled with even more possibilities—new brewing techniques to explore, new competitions to enter, and more of the global coffee community to connect with.
This journey is just getting started, and I can’t wait to see what comes next. Stay tuned, because there’s a lot more brewing on the horizon!
